![]() Bows (once you get a compound bow) do more damage on average and can be shot at a much higher rate (due to free action reloads, rapid shot, and multishot) Gaining a way to fire crossbows at the rate of a bow will not end up being over powered at higher levels. Crossbows are not considered to be good weapons. While this might seem a bit OP at lower levels, once you get up into the higher levels, that entire round to reload will kill the performance of this weapon.Īs for Abundant Ammunition, I would allow it, but it is up to you as the GM. If your character is level 3 with rapid shot, that means he can get of 2 shots per round. ![]() Each shot is a free action to reload, but you only get as many shots as you can make per round. Think of this like a bow that you can shoot off 5 times. ![]() Does the magazine of a repeating crossbow count as a container for the purposes of of this spell?ĮDIT: Thanks for everyone who answered. After all, shooting is a standard action, so he can't make more than one of them per round, right? Please tell me I'm correct.Īlso, the player in question can cast Abundant Ammunition. Now I'm beginning to doubt that that's not the correct ruling. The player hit all five bolts (one of them crit'd), killing the boss of the session in practically one round. Since free actions take no time, I allowed four free actions. The player in question interpreted it that during the six-second round he could shoot one, reload as a free action, shoot again, reload, shoot, reload, shoot, reload and shoot. So one of my players is using one of these (a heavy one) and I'd like some clarification on exactly how these work. However, you must fire the weapon with two hands in order to use the reloading lever, and you must use two hands to load a new case of bolts. You can fire a repeating crossbow with one hand or fire a repeating crossbow in each hand in the same manner as you would a normal crossbow of the same size. Loading a new case of 5 bolts is a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity. As long as it holds bolts, you can reload it by pulling the reloading lever (a free action).
